Structure And Uses Of Wreckers

Feb 20, 2026 Leave a message

A wrecker truck mainly consists of a chassis, lifting device, towing and lifting device, hydraulic system, electronic control system, vehicle body, and toolbox. It has multiple functions including lifting, pulling, and towing, and is suitable for clearing obstacles on highways and urban roads.

A wrecker truck is a specialized engineering vehicle designed to ensure smooth traffic flow and is an important piece of equipment for traffic management in busy urban areas and highways. It is a special vehicle capable of quickly, promptly, and safely removing accident-damaged, broken-down, and illegally parked vehicles from roads, and directing traffic.

First, wrecker trucks are generally classified into four main series according to their structural type: towing-lift-separate type, towing-lift-integrated type, flatbed type, and standard type. The towing-lift-separate type includes two types: rotating boom wrecker trucks and non-rotating boom wrecker trucks.

Second, the specifications of wrecker trucks commonly referred to, such as 3-ton, 5-ton, 8-ton, and 20-ton, actually refer to the load-bearing capacity level of the chassis used in that type of wrecker truck. The tonnage of the vehicle being towed has some relation to its capacity, but there is no necessary connection; the larger the tonnage, the greater the working capacity of the recovery vehicle.

Third, when clearing a towed vehicle from the scene, recovery vehicles generally use two methods: towing and dragging. Towing involves using the recovery vehicle's tow arm to lift and pull the towed vehicle. Dragging, also known as hard towing, involves using the recovery vehicle to rigidly connect and pull the towed vehicle.

Fourth, the operation and use methods, precautions, and other aspects of using and extending the service life of the recovery vehicle are important.
