Maintenance Tips for Sewage Suction Truck Vacuum Pump

Nov 02, 2026 Leave a message

The vacuum pump is the core heart of a sewage suction truck. The performance of the vacuum pump directly decides the suction speed, pumping efficiency and service life of the whole sanitation truck. Poor daily maintenance will lead to weak suction, abnormal noise, oil leakage, stuck rotor and frequent breakdowns, which seriously delay your sewage disposal and septic tank cleaning work. As a professional sanitation truck exporter with our own modification factory and ready stock, we supply high-quality sewage suction trucks and provide practical maintenance guidance for our customers from Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.https://www.hjtrailer.com/truck/tank-truck/vacuum-septic-tank.html

1. Check pump oil level and oil quality regularly

Vacuum pump oil plays the roles of lubrication, sealing and cooling. You should inspect the oil level before each operation. The oil should stay between the upper and lower scale marks. Replace the vacuum pump oil on schedule. Dirty, emulsified or blackened oil must be drained immediately. Our factory recommends special vacuum pump oil; do not use ordinary engine oil as a substitute, otherwise it will cause poor sealing and overheating.

2. Inspect the filter and separator frequently

The air filter and water-gas separator can block sludge, solid debris and sewage from entering the pump chamber. Blocked filters increase pump load and cause wear inside the vacuum pump. Clean the filter screen after every septic tank suction task. For heavy sludge working conditions, shorten the cleaning cycle. We equip high-quality separators on all our sewage suction trucks to protect the vacuum pump.

3. Check air pipes, seals and connection flanges

Loose joints and aging rubber gaskets are common causes of insufficient vacuum and weak suction power. Inspect all pipeline connections, flange gaskets and hose clamps regularly. Replace cracked, hardened or leaking sealing rings in time. Air leakage will make the pump run continuously under overload and accelerate part wear.

4. Avoid running the vacuum pump for dry operation

Never keep the vacuum pump running for a long time without medium or without enough liquid. Dry running without sewage medium will quickly raise internal temperature, burn the sealing parts and scratch the rotor. Remember to control working time reasonably and follow the operating manual of the sewage suction truck.

5. Clean sludge residue inside the pump and pipeline

Fine silt and sediment may enter the pipeline even with filters. Accumulated sludge will corrode the pump body and scratch the rotor. After finishing daily sewage suction work, flush the pump and pipelines with clean water if conditions permit. This simple step greatly extends the service life of the vacuum pump.

6. Listen for abnormal noise and vibration

Pay attention to strange knocking, scraping or rumbling sound when the pump works. Abnormal vibration usually means loose fasteners, damaged bearings or foreign objects stuck inside the pump. Stop the machine for inspection at once, do not continue working, or you may cause permanent damage to the vacuum pump.

7. Do regular anti-rust treatment for idle seasons

If the sewage suction truck will be parked idle for a long time, drain all residual water inside the pump and pipelines. Add a small amount of anti-rust oil inside the pump cavity. Store the truck in a dry place, avoid exposure to rain and humid air, to prevent internal rust of the vacuum pump.

Summary: Routine maintenance of the sewage suction truck vacuum pump focuses on oil management, filter cleaning, leak inspection and avoiding dry running. Proper maintenance reduces breakdown rate and maximizes working hours for your sanitation fleet. Our factory can customize sewage suction trucks with different tank volumes, Euro 2 / Euro 3 engines and right-hand drive for different country requirements.
