Hydraulic Tail Lift Load Capacity Selection Guide

Choosing the right hydraulic tail lift load capacity directly affects loading efficiency, operator safety and long-term service life of your box cargo truck. Many fleet buyers make the mistake of selecting a tail lift only by the truck's gross weight, ignoring pallet weight, cargo weight, impact load and uneven load distribution. This guide applies to ISUZU, HOWO, FOTON light and medium-duty dry van trucks, both LHD and RHD models for Africa, Middle East and Southeast Asia logistics markets.https://www.hjtrailer.com/truck/box-truck/box-truck-with-liftgate.html

First, understand the rated load of hydraulic tail lift. The marked load capacity refers to the static balanced load on the center of the tailgate platform. When goods are pushed on quickly, or heavy pallets are placed on one side of the platform, extra impact load will be generated. Normally, we recommend reserving a safety margin of 20%~30%. For example, if your regular cargo weight is 1.5 tons, choose a 2-ton hydraulic tail lift instead of a 1.5-ton model.

Match tail lift capacity to your cargo type:

  • Light parcels, cartons, small retail goods: 1000kg ~ 1500kg tail lift is suitable for light duty ISUZU / FOTON delivery vans.
  • Standard warehouse pallets, food packaging, electronics: 2000kg hydraulic tail lift is the most popular option for medium HOWO box trucks.
  • Heavy machinery parts, construction materials, metal packages: 2500kg ~ 3000kg heavy-duty tail lift with reinforced arm structure is required.

You also need to check the truck chassis condition before ordering. The rear frame cross member must be strong enough to install the tail lift bracket. Thin chassis or weak rear cross beams cannot support high-capacity tail lifts, which may lead to frame deformation and welding cracks. Besides load capacity, pay attention to platform size, anti-slip surface, dual-cylinder design, emergency stop button and remote control function.

Common wrong selections to avoid:

  1. Buy maximum load tail lift blindly, which adds extra dead weight and raises fuel consumption.
  2. Select tail lift only matching pallet weight without impact safety allowance.
  3. Install heavy tail lift on light truck chassis without chassis reinforcement.

Our team can customize hydraulic tail lifts of different load ratings for dry van trucks. We provide installation drawings, reinforcement solutions and after-sales hydraulic maintenance support.
